Backend development

Server-side systems and services in .NET and Node.js, built to handle growth.

What this service covers

We design and build the server side of products: business logic, data models, background jobs, queues and the services that tie them together. Most of our backend work is in .NET and Node.js, running on PostgreSQL or SQL Server.

We default to a well-structured monolith and split out services only when there is a clear reason, such as a component with very different scaling needs. That keeps early products cheap to run and easy to change.

Every backend we ship has structured logging, tracing, health checks and a load test result, so you know how far it will go before it needs more work.

What you get out of it

The results clients typically see. We agree the measures that matter to you during discovery.

  • 01

    A backend that handles 10× today’s load

Load-tested against a target you set, with the results and bottlenecks written down.

  • 02

p95 API responses under 200 ms

Query tuning, caching and background processing keep user-facing requests fast.

  • 03

Problems found in minutes, not days

Tracing and structured logs mean a failing request can be followed across every service it touched.

How the engagement runs

A typical backend development engagement, start to finish. You see working results every week.

Stack we use most often

  • .NET 8
  • Node.js
  • NestJS
  • PostgreSQL
  • SQL Server
  • Redis
  • RabbitMQ
  • OpenTelemetry
  • Docker

We fit in with what your team already runs.

  1. 1

    Domain modelling

    1 week

Map entities, workflows and integration points; agree the architecture.

  2. 2

    Foundations

    1–2 weeks

Project skeleton, auth, CI, observability and the first endpoints.

  3. 3

    Feature build

    4–8 weeks

Business logic delivered in weekly increments with tests.

  4. 4

    Load test and harden

    1 week

Performance testing, failure drills and documentation.

Deliverables

What you receive, all in your own accounts.

  • Service code in .NET or Node.js with clear module boundaries
  • Database schema with versioned migrations
  • Background jobs and message queues
  • OpenTelemetry tracing and structured logging
  • Load test scripts and a written capacity report
  • Unit and integration test suites
  • Architecture decision records
